MBChB / DA(SA) / Dip. Aesthetic Medicine / Masters in Aestetic plastic sugery /
I qualified as a doctor at Stellenbosch University in 2013 and spent my first years in the public system — internship at Rahima Moosa and Helen Joseph, community service at Edenvale and Charlotte Maxeke, then Tembisa Hospital. Emergency medicine, internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics. It is the training that teaches you what a patient looks like when things are going wrong.
In 2017 I completed my Diploma in Anaesthetics through the College of Medicine of South Africa and began working as an anaesthetist in private hospitals in Johannesburg, largely in obstetrics. I still do this. The same year I founded Dr Sandy Medical Spa, and went on to complete a Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine through the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine.
In 2026 I completed my masters in aesthetics plastic surgery magna cum laude.
I am Dr. Sandy, a medical doctor holding diplomas in both anaesthetics and aesthetics, and I proudly serve as the founder and CEO of Dr. Sandy Medical Spa.
Specializing in non-surgical face and body augmentation, I am dedicated to enhancing the beauty of individuals worldwide, regardless of gender. Through a range of advanced procedures including anti-wrinkle injections, hyaluronic acid fillers, thread lifts, and skin resurfacing treatments, I strive to empower individuals to embrace their natural beauty without the need for invasive plastic surgery.
At DR SANDY MEDICAL SPA, we are honored to have received prestigious awards, including the Middle East Award for the BEST MEDICAL SPA in 2021 and The Global Health and Pharma Award for BEST AESTHETIC SPA in the same year. Since our establishment in 2017, our commitment to excellence has remained unwavering.
Setting us apart from others in Southern Africa, we proudly offer the non-surgical buttock volumization procedure, providing a safer alternative to traditional high-risk Surgical BBLs. This innovative treatment has significantly reduced the associated risks of morbidity and mortality.
At the core of our practice is a dedication to delivering medically refined treatments with an unwavering focus on patient safety and the use of premium-quality products. Each procedure is meticulously performed, guided by an excellent protocol that ensures optimal results and patient satisfaction.
Achieving excellence in aesthetics demands time, dedication, and precision. Over the years, I have honed my skills to perfection, particularly in the non-surgical buttock enlargement procedure. My commitment to continual improvement drives me to invest in enhancing the quality of results for every patient, ensuring they receive the best care possible in the aesthetic industry.
I have worked as an anaesthetist in Johannesburg private hospitals since 2017, mostly in obstetrics — spinal and epidural anaesthesia for caesarean sections.
That work means assessing a patient’s history, pregnancy status and anaesthetic risk before every procedure. It means monitoring vital signs continuously and recognising a deviation early. It means having a plan for maternal hypotension, for an inadequate block, for fetal distress — and executing it in under a minute.
I bring the same monitoring discipline and the same emergency preparedness into the aesthetic room. Every patient gets a full medical history. Every procedure has a complication protocol. Hyaluronidase and emergency drugs are on site, and I know how to use them because I use that class of skill professionally.
Surgical BBL — gluteal fat grafting — carries the highest mortality rate of any cosmetic procedure, driven by fat embolism. That risk is the reason I started offering a non-surgical alternative in South Africa in 2017.
The non-surgical approach uses injectable volumising agents placed in the subcutaneous plane, not fat transferred into or near muscle. No general anaesthetic. No liposuction. No drains.
It is not a like-for-like replacement for surgery. It achieves less volume, it is not permanent, and it is not right for everybody. I turn people away when their goals do not match what the procedure can do, or when their anatomy or history makes them a poor candidate.
Results vary between individuals. All procedures carry risk, discussed in full at consultation.
