Acne Scar Subcision

Subcision is a specialised in-clinic treatment designed to improve acne scarring by releasing the tight fibrous bands beneath the skin that cause dents and uneven texture. Using a fine cannula, our doctors gently free these tethered areas, allowing the skin to lift and smooth naturally while stimulating new collagen for long-lasting improvement. At Dr Sandy …

About Scar treatments

Subcision is a minimally invasive, in-clinic treatment designed to significantly improve the appearance of depressed acne scars and cellulite. These types of scars form when fibrous bands under the skin pull the surface downward, creating pits or uneven texture. Subcision works by gently releasing these bands, allowing the skin to lift and remodel naturally while stimulating new collagen production for smoother, firmer skin over time. At Dr Sandy Medical Spa, all Subcision treatments are performed by our experienced medical doctors to ensure precision, safety, and exceptional results.

How it Works

Targeting the Cause Beneath the Skin

Unlike surface-level treatments, Subcision works below the skin’s surface where the problem begins. Using a fine, sterile cannula, the doctor carefully enters the treatment area beneath the scar to access the fibrous bands that tether the skin downward.

Releasing Fibrous Bands

The cannula is gently moved to break apart these internal bands. Once released, the skin is no longer being pulled down, allowing the treated area to rise and appear smoother and more even.

Stimulating Natural Collagen Repair

Following Subcision, the body activates its natural healing process. Collagen production increases in the treated area, helping restore structure and firmness to the skin while continuing to improve scar depth and texture over time.

Comfortable, Doctor-Led Treatment

To ensure your comfort, a local anaesthetic is applied before treatment begins. At Dr Sandy Medical Spa, Subcision is performed exclusively by medical doctors using specialised cannula-blade technology for controlled, effective release of scar tissue.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

  • You have depressed or indented acne scars (especially rolling scars)
  • Your scars feel tethered or “pulled down” under the skin
  • You want a treatment that targets the root cause
  • You are in good general health
  • You have realistic expectations about gradual improvement
  • You want a minimally invasive procedure
  • Realistic expectations about improvement, not total removal.
  • You may benefit from combining Subcision with other scar-remodelling treatments

Subcision is ideal for individuals with depressed or tethered acne scars such as rolling scars, as well as those seeking improvement in cellulite dimpling. It is suitable for most skin types and for scarring on the face, chest, and back. The best candidates are generally in good health, have realistic expectations, and are looking for a treatment that addresses the underlying cause of scarring rather than just the skin’s surface. During your consultation, our doctors will assess your skin and determine whether Subcision — or a combination approach — is the most effective treatment for you.

have a question?

Quick answers to questions you may have

How long does a Subcision treatment take?

A typical Subcision session takes around 30–60 minutes, depending on the number of scars being treated. Because it is a minimally invasive in-clinic procedure, you can usually return home shortly afterward.

Is Subcision painful?

Most patients find the treatment very comfortable. A local anaesthetic is applied to numb the area before treatment begins, so you should only feel mild pressure or movement beneath the skin rather than pain.

How many Subcision sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on the severity and depth of your scars. Many patients notice visible improvement after just one treatment, while deeper scars may benefit from multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart.

What is the recovery time?

Mild swelling or bruising may occur for a few days after treatment, but this typically settles quickly. Most patients are able to resume normal activities soon afterward, with very little downtime compared to more invasive procedures.
